A member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, popularly known as Miracles Aboagye, has been granted bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after being detained over an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities.

Mr Aboagye was granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties required to justify, following discussions between his legal representatives and EOCO officials.

His release comes after he was taken into custody on Sunday, July 12, 2026, as part of investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related breaches at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), where he previously served as Executive Secretary.

EOCO has linked the investigation to allegations involving about GH¢55 million in public funds. The anti-corruption agency said Mr Aboagye, together with former IMCCoD accountant Gerald Appiah and other persons, is being investigated over claims of misappropriation, misapplication, diversion and theft of state funds.

The probe follows a petition submitted by the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD requesting further investigations into findings from a forensic audit conducted for the period between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.

According to EOCO, the suspected offences under investigation include conspiracy to steal, stealing, causing financial loss to the state, using public office for profit, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretences and money laundering, among other related allegations.

The arrest of Mr Aboagye triggered a gathering of supporters and sympathisers at EOCO’s headquarters, with some demanding his immediate release.

Security personnel, including police officers, military personnel and national security operatives, were deployed to the area to maintain order and manage traffic as tensions rose.

The NPP has criticised the arrest, describing it as politically motivated and an attempt to intimidate members of the opposition party.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said political power is temporary and warned that individuals currently in government could face similar scrutiny in the future.

However, EOCO has maintained that its actions are based on lawful investigations and assured that all persons involved will be treated in line with due process.
