Dr. Richmond Adusa-Poku, an executive member of the pharmaceutical society of Ghana, has urged the government to declare a state of emergency in response to the growing misuse of opioids in the country.
He emphasized that as long as there is demand, there will be a supply, and called for immediate action, including assigning intelligence agencies to track and shut down manufacturers.

Titus Beyuo, the Member of Parliament for Lambussie, has also described the illegal entry of opioids into the country as a failure in regulatory oversight.
Citing a BBC Africa documentary, Beyuo highlighted how the nation’s borders have become a convenient route for smugglers.
Speaking on ABC’s Morning Show, he stressed the need for urgent action to combat the growing issue.
He also called for strict accountability, urging that those caught trafficking opioids be severely punished, with security officials stationed at all border points to prevent further smuggling.
