The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has provided critical medical equipment to the Brenase Polyclinic to enhance its capacity to deliver advanced healthcare services, particularly surgical procedures, in the district.

During a visit to the facility, Oppong Nkrumah engaged with health workers to better understand their challenges and operational needs. The interaction, according to him, formed part of his continuous efforts to improve healthcare delivery within the constituency.

“I spent time listening to the dedicated staff at Brenase Polyclinic,” he noted, acknowledging the commitment of medical personnel who continue to serve residents despite limited resources.

Upgrading a Key Health Facility

The Brenase Polyclinic holds a strategic position in the district’s healthcare system, as it remains the only polyclinic serving the area. Originally established as a health centre, the facility was upgraded through the intervention of Oppong Nkrumah as part of efforts to expand access to improved medical care while awaiting the construction of a full district hospital.

The upgrade was intended to bridge the healthcare gap by enabling the facility to offer more comprehensive services beyond basic primary care.

“It used to be a health centre, and I upgraded it pending the construction of a district hospital,” the MP explained.

Equipment To Enable Surgeries

As part of his latest intervention, Oppong Nkrumah supplied theatre equipment to the polyclinic, a move expected to significantly enhance its ability to conduct more complex and elaborate surgical procedures locally.

The provision of such equipment is expected to reduce referrals to distant hospitals, ease pressure on larger facilities, and improve emergency response outcomes for patients in the district.

“Theatre equipment [has been provided] mostly to enable elaborate surgeries to take place,” he indicated.

Health workers at the facility have long identified the lack of adequate surgical tools as a major limitation, often forcing patients to travel long distances to access specialised care.

Strengthening Local Healthcare Delivery

The intervention forms part of broader efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency, particularly in underserved communities where access to advanced medical services remains a challenge.

By equipping the Brenase Polyclinic, the MP aims to bring healthcare services closer to residents and improve the quality of care available at the local level.

In a message of encouragement to the medical team, Oppong Nkrumah expressed hope that the new equipment would enhance service delivery. “May the Holy Spirit take control and assist the medical team to provide quality healthcare with these equipment,” he said.
Bridging the Gap Before District Hospital

The support to the polyclinic comes as part of a transitional plan to improve healthcare access while plans for a district hospital are still underway. The MP’s intervention reflects an effort to ensure that residents are not left without essential medical services during the interim period.

For many residents in Brenase and surrounding communities, the upgrade and new equipment represent a significant step toward improved healthcare access—bringing essential surgical services closer to home and reducing the burden of travel for treatment.
