Parliament will reconvene today, Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

This will be the first sitting since the December 7 general elections, which has reshaped Ghana’s political and parliamentary landscape.

The session follows an official circular from the Speaker’s Office on December 11, confirming the venue.

Speaker Alban Bagbin, in a notice dated December 2, summoned Parliament to resume, citing the significance of the gathering in light of recent political developments.

The December 7 elections saw the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secure a parliamentary majority, shifting the balance of power.

Several prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament, including Ursula Owusu-Ekulful, Henry Quartey, KT Hammond, and Andy Appiah Kubi, lost their seats.

NDC’s John Dramani Mahama defeated Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the presidential race, further cementing the party’s victory.

Before the elections, Speaker Bagbin had postponed a pre-election sitting despite calls from the Majority Caucus to address urgent legislative matters. This decision sparked debate among lawmakers.

Today’s sitting is expected to focus on post-election transitions, legislative priorities for the incoming administration, and key governance matters.
