President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the Accra STEM Academy, a state-of-the-art institution dedicated to advancing education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The ceremony, held on Friday, December 27, 2024, marks a pivotal step in equipping Ghanaian students with skills in robotics, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Speaking at the event, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the transformative role of STEM education in addressing global trends and fostering national development.
“The world around us is changing rapidly. Technology is at the heart of this transformation, driving progress in education, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, industry, and every aspect of our lives.
For Ghana to thrive in this modern era, we must equip our young people with the tools they need to succeed. STEM education is not a choice – it is a necessity,” he stated.
As part of the government’s broader STEM agenda, the President announced plans to establish 20 STEM centers and 10 model STEM Senior High Schools across the nation.
These institutions, equipped with modern laboratories and practical learning tools, will focus on disciplines like coding, data science, and renewable energy.
