The Electoral Commission (EC) has terminated the appointment of the district electoral officer at Pusiga in the Upper East Region.
This decision follows alarming findings during the exhibition of the provisional voter’s register, which uncovered unauthorized voter transfers from two polling stations in the Tamale South constituency and one in the Sagnarigu constituency to the Pusiga constituency.
The EC confirmed that a total of 38 unauthorized transfers had occurred, all of which have now been reversed.
In response to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which demanded a forensic audit of the voter’s register, the EC reassured the public of the integrity of its systems.
They emphasized that all transfers are meticulously recorded in the Voter Management System (VMS), making them verifiable.
The Commission stated, “All data, from registration to transfers and amendments are not deleted from the Voter Management System,” providing a robust framework for accountability even in the face of corruption.
The EC has also addressed the NDC’s concerns regarding alleged “15,000 instances of unidentifiable voter transfer paths,” noting that the party has yet to provide substantial evidence for its claims.
Despite the NDC’s demand for a re-exhibition of the voter’s register, the Commission announced that, due to time constraints, it would only facilitate an online exhibition until Election Day.
Reiterating its commitment to transparency, the EC has invited the NDC to engage in discussions to better understand the measures taken to rectify the discrepancies in the voter’s register.
