Former Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Kwakwa, has launched a scathing attack on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), calling for its immediate abolition.
According to him, the institution has failed woefully to deliver on its core mandate of fighting corruption and has instead become a wasteful burden on the public purse.
Speaking on ABC in the morning, he said the OSP, which was once hailed as a bold step in tackling corruption, has lost credibility and failed to demonstrate independence.
Mr. Kwakwa maintained that despite the huge budgetary allocations, the OSP has not recorded any substantive prosecutions to justify its existence. “It has not served the purpose it was supposed to,” he argued, stressing that the office has become ineffective and unworthy of the resources committed to it.
He further emphasized that the country cannot continue to invest in an institution that has yielded little or no tangible results in the fight against graft.
He concluded by insisting that the OSP should be scrapped once and for all to save state funds and redirect resources to more effective anti-corruption mechanisms.
“It is an office that must be scrapped once and for all,” he declared, reinforcing his position that the current arrangement has completely failed Ghanaians.
