Former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansah Asare, has called out Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine over what he describes as a lack of objectivity in the administration of justice.
In an interview with Prime News on ABC News GH on Monday, Prof. Asare questioned the Attorney-General’s recent decisions, warning that public perception of bias could damage the credibility of the justice system.
“If it is not conflict of interest, what is it? He needs to come out and explain to Ghanaians,” he stated.
His comments come in the wake of growing controversy surrounding the Attorney-General’s recent decision to drop charges against former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor.
Critics, including the Minority in Parliament, have alleged selective justice and questioned the legal justification behind the decision, citing procedural inconsistencies and what they call a dangerous precedent.
Dr. Ayine, however, maintains that his office acts within the law and will apply the same standard to NDC officials if implicated.
Kwaku Asare, however, insists that mere assurances are not enough and called for the Attorney-General to demonstrate impartiality in both word and deed.
“He should move beyond political parties and be objective,” he warned, stressing the need for the country’s top legal officer to act without partisan considerations.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ayine has defended the government’s use of plea bargaining and restitution, arguing that such tools are part of Ghana’s legal tradition and offer a path to justice when used transparently.
