An explosive investigation by The Fourth Estate has identified key officials who were in charge of the National Service Authority (NSA) when the ghost names scandal emerged under former President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
Investigative journalist Kwaku Krobea Asante revealed that Henry Nana Boakye, Osei Assibey Antwi, Mustapha Ussif, Gifty Oware, and Kwaku Ohene Djan were at the helm during the period of fraudulent payments.
Speaking on a sister TV station, Asante emphasized that while the report does not directly accuse these officials of theft, it highlights their responsibility in overseeing the scheme.
“Our point is not necessarily to say these individuals stole money, but rather that they were in charge when the irregularities occurred,” he stated.
This revelation follows President John Dramani Mahama’s directive for a full-scale investigation into the 81,885 suspected ghost names uncovered on the NSA payroll.
Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed that the irregularities surfaced during an official headcount of active national service personnel. The audit, commissioned by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, aims to clear outstanding allowance arrears dating back to August 2024. The unfolding scandal has sparked national outrage, with calls for accountability and possible prosecutions.
