Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with two additional counts of rape, deepening the legal case against the Ghana international ahead of his scheduled trial later this year.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that it has authorised the new charges following a review of evidence. Partey, 32, is now accused of multiple serious sexual offences involving three women.

The footballer is expected to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 13, to answer to the new allegations.

Partey has already pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault when he appeared at Southwark Crown Court in September last year. The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, a period during which Partey was a regular starter for Arsenal in the Premier League.

He was formally charged four days after his contract with Arsenal expired at the end of June, bringing his time at the north London club to an end.

Despite the ongoing case, Partey is currently playing football in Spain. He joined La Liga side Villarreal after leaving Arsenal and remains on bail. While the bail conditions allow him to continue his professional career, he is required to inform police at least 24 hours before any international travel and is prohibited from contacting the complainants.

Partey is due to stand trial on November 2, where he will face all charges currently brought against him.

Beyond club football, Partey continues to feature prominently for the Ghana national team. He is expected to be part of the Black Stars squad for the World Cup group-stage clash against England, scheduled for June 23 in the United States.
