The United States Embassy in Ghana has praised the nation for successfully conducting peaceful elections on December 7.
In a statement issued on Sunday, December 8, the embassy congratulated the Ghanaian people and expressed optimism for continued collaboration under President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
“Congratulations to all Ghanaians on a successful election that reflects the will of the Ghanaian people,” the statement read.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), conceded defeat in a heartfelt message, lauding the democratic process and urging national unity.
“I have just called H.E. John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him as President-elect of the Republic of Ghana,” Dr. Bawumia announced. “While this was not our desired outcome, I urge everyone to accept the result in the interest of national unity.”
His concession has been hailed as a pivotal step in maintaining Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
The US Embassy further commended all candidates for their commitment to peaceful elections and the transfer of power.
