The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed the receipt of an additional GH¢35 million from the Ministry of Education to support the completion of processes for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.
In a statement issued on December 25 and signed by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, the Council expressed that the funds would aid in the scanning of objective answer sheets and the final processing of results.
This announcement follows mounting concerns about delays in the release of WASSCE results, which have disrupted academic schedules and tertiary admissions.
WAEC also assured stakeholders that it is working diligently to ensure the timely release of results by the end of December 2024.
However, the Council reiterated its appeal to the Ministry of Education to release the remaining balance of its outstanding debt, which is crucial for settling payments to supervisors, invigilators, script checkers, suppliers of examination materials, and other financial obligations.
“The Council is appealing to the Ministry of Education to release the outstanding balance to enable it to pay Supervisors, Invigilators, script checkers, suppliers of examination materials, and meet other financial obligations,” the statement read. WAEC extended its holiday greetings to all stakeholders, expressing gratitude for their patience and continued support.
