Ghana forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has emphasised the strong team spirit and unity within the Black Queens camp ahead of their decisive Group C encounter against Tanzania at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The London City Lioness attacker, who is featuring in her debut WAFCON, has been one of Ghana’s standout performers in their opening matches against South Africa and Mali. Despite securing only one point from the two games, the Black Queens remain in contention for a quarterfinal spot and will need all three points from their final group game to advance.
Ahead of the crucial tie, Boye-Hlorkah, who previously played for Everton and Aston Villa, attributed the team’s determination to their shared belief and unity.
“We still have the positivity, and we believe in ourselves. We’ve just got to go out and show it,” she said.
Reflecting on her tournament debut, Boye-Hlorkah acknowledged the challenges posed by the competition but maintained confidence in her performance and support system.
“I’m taking it in stride. I feel the confidence from my teammates and coaches. I’m trying to make myself, my family, and Ghana proud.”
With Ghana’s squad blending experience and emerging talent, the 28-year-old highlighted the importance of staying focused under pressure as the team seeks to secure qualification.
“We know how important this game is, and we know what it’s going to take,” she added. “The pressure isn’t pressure; it’s a privilege.”
The Black Queens will take on Tanzania on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Berkane Municipal Stadium, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT. A win will guarantee Ghana a place in the quarterfinals and keep their hopes of continental glory alive.
