Aviation Expert, Dr Yakubu Isaaka Akparibo, has suggested that recent emergency landings and helicopter incidents could be partly attributed to worsening weather conditions.
Speaking on ABC in the morning, he noted that the cloudy weather may have contributed to the emergency landing of a Volta River Aviation helicopter with registration number 9G-AFW, as well as the tragic crash of the Z-9 helicopter, which claimed the lives of eight gallant men.
Dr Akparibo explained that such occurrences, though unfortunate, are not uncommon in the aviation sector. “It’s been happening; it’s just that this has come to the know of the general public,” he said.
He pointed out that multiple factors could lead to such incidents, but the recent cloudy weather is a possible contributor.
Commenting on the Z-9 helicopter crash, Dr Akparibo criticized the response process, saying it fell short of international standards.
He stressed that search and rescue operations should have been the first action taken, outlining that proper procedures needed to be followed immediately after the incident.
