The Minority group in Parliament has announced their intentions to take action towards ensuring that a non-partisan investigation is carried out into the galamsey report by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.
The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, expressed their commitment towards ensuring that probity and accountability is achieved regarding this matter.
This decision was made following the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s appeals to the Parliament and the Office of the Special Prosecutor to launch a public inquiry into the report which implicates some officials of the governing New Patriotic Party.
Dr. Ato Forson, speaking to the press, affirmed the Minority’s support of the call for a probe.
“This House has been urged by a vast majority of our citizens to institute a bi-partisan probe into this serious matter. We, the Minority support this call and shall take steps accordingly to trigger the necessary processes for an independent probe into this matter. So in the coming days, don’t be surprised if you hear the NDC Minority starting a process to constitute an independent probe into Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s report,” he added.
The report made several allegations against some government and political party officials who made various attempts allegedly to thwart his efforts in clamping down on illegal mining in the country.
However, several persons indicted in the report have rejected the allegations.
