The Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, has expressed strong optimism about the party’s chances in the upcoming Akwatia by-election, following early poll results released by Global Info Analytics.
According to Dr. Kevor, the party’s candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, has made significant progress, polling 43.8% of voter support within just 12 hours of his official endorsement.
Speaking to ABC News GH, Dr. Kevor stated that the internal selection of Baidoo was peaceful and without any disagreements.
He described the process as “very free, fair and calm,” adding that the unity within the party leadership is now fully behind their candidate.
“We will make sure we all rally behind him on 2 September,” he said, reinforcing the NDC’s commitment to a united front going into the crucial by-election.
The early poll conducted by Global Info Analytics projects a slight lead for the NPP’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu at 49.7%, followed by the NDC’s Baidoo at 43.8%, and 6.5% leaning toward a third-party candidate.
The survey covered 21 electoral areas with a sample size of 2,087 using random online sampling. While analysts say the sympathy vote following the death of the former MP may not play a major role, Dr. Kevor remains confident.
“We are satisfied with the analytics. We are very confident that once we send our message, they will buy it and vote for us.”
