Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has begun a three-day state visit to Ghana, signaling a renewed push to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.
The visit, scheduled from April 1 to April 3, 2026, was announced in an official communication issued on March 31 by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communication. Authorities say the trip is focused on enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors.
President Mnangagwa was formally welcomed at the airport in Accra by John Dramani Mahama, with full military honours accorded by the Ghana Armed Forces, reflecting the importance of the visit.
Central to the trip are bilateral discussions expected to take place at the Peduase Lodge, where both leaders will engage in high-level talks. Key areas on the agenda include trade expansion, agricultural development, healthcare cooperation, tourism growth, and governance reforms.
Officials indicate that several agreements could be concluded, particularly in investment promotion, youth employment initiatives, and anti-corruption efforts, as both nations seek to deepen institutional collaboration.
As part of the state visit, President Mahama is set to host a formal banquet in honour of the Zimbabwean leader, highlighting the longstanding relationship between the two countries—one rooted in shared histories of liberation and pan-African solidarity.
President Mnangagwa is expected to wrap up his visit and depart Ghana on Friday, April 3.
