One person has been confirmed dead and 37 others injured following a road traffic accident involving a passenger bus and a cargo truck at Mankrong on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region.
The accident occurred on Sunday, January 11, 2026, and involved a 40-seater Zhong Tong bus with registration number AS 7022-21 and a Man Diesel truck, GW 3969-U. Both vehicles were reportedly in motion at the time of the collision.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Suhum Municipal Fire Station received a distress call at 0659 hours and immediately dispatched a rescue team led by Assistant Divisional Officer II (ADO II) Bernard Boamah. The crew arrived at the scene at 0707 hours.
One victim was found trapped in the wreckage and was pronounced dead. Thirty-seven others, comprising 21 males and 17 females, sustained varying degrees of injury. Some of the injured were conveyed to the Suhum Government Hospital before the arrival of the fire crew, while others were assisted at the scene. Occupants of the truck escaped without injury.
Firefighters successfully extricated the deceased, assisted emergency medical services, cleared debris from the roadway, and restored traffic flow to ensure the safety of other road users.
An assessment of the vehicles showed extensive damage to the front portion of the bus, while the rear of the truck sustained only minor damage. Eyewitness accounts suggested that the bus was travelling at a high speed and allegedly rammed into the truck.
The rescue operation was completed at 0857 hours, with the crew returning to base at 0952 hours.
The Ghana National Fire Service has once again reiterated its commitment to rapid, professional, and life-saving emergency response, while urging motorists to adhere strictly to road safety regulations to prevent avoidable accidents.
