The Executive Director of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, has called on Ghanaians to preserve and embody the enduring values of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.
Speaking at a wreath-laying ceremony held at Asomdwee Park on Thursday, July 24, 2025, to commemorate his passing, Nana Oye described Professor Mills as “a beacon of moral leadership” whose integrity stood firm even when “political integrity seemed like an oxymoron.”

She emphasized that Mills’ commitment to peace was not passive, but rooted in justice, mutual respect, and understanding.
“Mills was fundamentally a man of peace—not a passive peace, but an active one.
He understood that peace was not the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, understanding, and mutual respect,” she said.
Nana Oye further stated that his public life was a reflection of the same values he upheld privately, saying, “Reputation is built in silence—and it lasts longer than applause.”
Highlighting his contribution to governance and legal education, she praised Mills’ influence as a legal scholar and mentor.

“Mills helped create a generation of legal professionals who understand their responsibilities,” she noted, adding that his “Better Ghana Agenda” was more than a political slogan—it was a “comprehensive framework for national development.”
Professor Mills, who served as President from 2009 until his death in 2012, remains remembered for his humility, integrity, and commitment to national unity.
