Fifteen supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been granted bail by the Osino District Court following accusations of setting the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Asuboi, Ayensuano, ablaze.
The accused individuals are facing charges related to the arson attack on the EC’s office, which occurred after the announcement of the election results on Monday, December 9, 2024. The attack came amid rising tensions in the Eastern Region following the results of the general elections.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution, led by Detective Chief Inspector Kamal Salifu Gumah of the Eastern South Regional Police Command’s Kibi Legal and Prosecution Department, requested more time to further investigate the case.
However, the defense counsel, Isaac Minta Larbi, who also serves as the lead counsel for the NDC in the Eastern Region, successfully petitioned the court to grant bail for the accused.
The court, presided over by His Worship Salifu Bugri Ayagiba, granted bail to each of the fifteen individuals in the amount of GH₵20,000, with one surety required for each defendant. The accused are scheduled to reappear in court on January 14, 2025.
Speaking to the media after the ruling, Isaac Minta Larbi expressed his satisfaction with the court’s decision and reiterated his commitment to defending the accused in the ongoing legal process.
