The Vice President and Flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has criticized former President John Dramani Mahama for targeting religious leaders, chiefs, and civil society organizations (CSOs) in his recent comments.
Mr. Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), had accused these groups of failing to hold the current administration accountable.
Dr. Bawumia, addressing a campaign event in Amasaman Constituency in Accra, suggested that Mahama’s outburst stemmed from frustration with his campaign’s lack of progress.
Dr. Bawumia accused Mahama of resorting to insults and personal attacks due to an absence of a clear campaign message.
He questioned the appropriateness of Mahama’s comments labeling respected figures like chiefs and religious leaders as hypocrites.
“When you have no message, you resort to insults,” Dr. Bawumia stated, criticizing Mahama for attacking respected institutions and individuals.
The Vice President also highlighted Mahama’s previous criticisms of the Electoral Commission and his recent disparaging remarks about the NPP government.
Dr. Bawumia challenged Mahama’s use of such language, asking, “Is this the kind of language that should be coming out of the mouth of a former President?” He emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum and standards in political discourse.
Dr. Bawumia reiterated the NPP’s achievements and challenged Mahama to a debate, asserting that his arguments are supported by data.
He outlined several upcoming initiatives, including policies aimed at improving accessibility and convenience for citizens, particularly those with disabilities.
The NPP candidate received strong endorsements from various leaders, who praised his track record and commitment to Ghana’s development, urging voters to support him in the upcoming elections.
