Ghana and Zimbabwe have taken a significant step toward strengthening their longstanding ties, formalising a series of new agreements designed to expand cooperation across key sectors of their economies.

The 11 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during the three-day state visit of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Ghana, marking a renewed commitment by both countries to deepen diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations.

The agreements span a broad range of areas, reflecting a comprehensive approach to bilateral collaboration. These include political and diplomatic consultations, research and training within foreign service institutions, sports and recreation development, as well as cooperation in health, energy, tourism, and archival management.

A notable aspect of the partnership is the emphasis on knowledge sharing and institutional collaboration. This is highlighted by an agreement between the Institute of African Knowledge and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, which will focus on advancing African liberation projects and preserving the continent’s historical heritage.

Trade and economic cooperation also featured prominently. An MoU between ZimTrade and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) is expected to enhance trade relations and create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.

In the private sector, a separate agreement was signed between Zoomlion Ghana Limited and Geo Pomona Waste Management (Pvt) Ltd, signalling increased collaboration in waste management and environmental sustainability.

The agreements are expected to promote joint research initiatives, facilitate knowledge exchange, and support infrastructure development, while boosting trade and investment flows between the two nations.

The signing ceremony was attended by Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, who reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening Pan-African cooperation and positioning the country as a hub for tourism, trade, and cultural exchange on the continent.

The MoUs collectively underscore a shared vision between Ghana and Zimbabwe to leverage strategic partnerships in driving sustainable development and regional integration across Africa.
