A shocking case of mob justice has left the Kasoa Iron City community in mourning following the brutal lynching of Lance Corporal Gideon Adu Boakye, a prison officer stationed at Nsawam Medium Security Prison.
The Ghana Prisons Service confirmed that six individuals, including four women and two men, have been arrested in connection with the tragic incident, which occurred on September 29, 2024.
Adu Boakye, who had been visiting relatives in Kasoa, was reportedly mistaken for a thief and violently attacked by a group of assailants.
According to the Kasoa Divisional Police Command, the suspects are now in custody as investigations continue into the circumstances of the attack.
The Prisons Service has condemned the act of mob justice, stressing the dangers of taking the law into one’s own hands.
“Instant justice” often leads to harm against innocent individuals, the service warned, urging the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities rather than resorting to violence.
The Ghana Prisons Service has also expressed deep condolences to the family of the slain officer and called for calm among prison officers.
“We stand with the family of our fallen colleague during this difficult time,” said a spokesperson.
“We will ensure that justice is served, and we urge everyone to remain patient as the police investigate this terrible tragedy.”
The suspects have been remanded, and authorities are working to uncover the full details behind the lynching.
