The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that 5,309 Ghanaians remain in Côte d’Ivoire following the Gbinyiri conflict, a sharp decline from the earlier figure of 13,253.

The conflict, which erupted over a land dispute in the Gbinyiri area, forced thousands to flee across the border, with many living in makeshift conditions in northern Côte d’Ivoire.

Speaking at the government’s accountability series, Mr. Ablakwa explained that about 8,000 displaced citizens have so far returned home, while efforts continue to facilitate the return of the remaining group.

He noted that government agencies and local authorities were working together to ensure safe reintegration and provide support for resettlement.

The Minister also highlighted his official visit to the camps in northern Côte d’Ivoire, where he delivered a message of peace and reconciliation from President John Mahama to the victims.

He urged the displaced citizens to consider returning home to rebuild their lives, assuring them of government’s continued commitment to their welfare.
