Nine people have lost their lives, while 27 others remain in critical condition following a devastating road crash on the Kintampo-Tamale highway in the early hours of Friday, April 3.
The fatal incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. and involved a passenger bus traveling toward Widaana in the Pusiga District and a cargo truck transporting tomatoes in the direction of Kumasi.

According to reports, the collision happened near Suronuase, a community within the Kintampo North Municipality, when the bus attempted to overtake two vehicles. In the process, it veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the oncoming truck.
The impact of the crash was severe, leaving both vehicles extensively damaged and debris, including the truck’s cargo, strewn across the road.

Emergency responders and eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, as victims were trapped in the wreckage and others lay injured along the highway.
Eight people were pronounced dead at the scene, while one additional victim died after being transported to the hospital. Meanwhile, 27 injured passengers are receiving treatment in critical condition at the Kintampo Municipal Hospital.

The latest accident has once again drawn attention to safety concerns on the Kintampo-Tamale stretch, a road widely criticized for its poor condition, including deep potholes and lack of maintenance.
Residents and road users have repeatedly raised alarms about the dangers posed by the highway, calling for urgent intervention to prevent further loss of life.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
