Philip Kwabena Agyemang, known widely as Roman Fada, has officially been appointed as the presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) in the upcoming 2024 elections.
His selection follows the sudden passing of Akua Donkor, the founder and previous candidate of the GFP.
Roman Fada, a notable radio and TV personality associated with Accra-based Atinka FM, confirmed his candidacy in an interview on Monday, November 4, on the same network.
During the interview, Roman Fada shared that his nomination was the outcome of comprehensive discussions among the GFP’s leadership, which aimed to ensure a seamless transition after Donkor’s death.
He stressed the party’s commitment to a careful and inclusive selection process to maintain stability and continuity.
“The party undertook a thorough process to ensure we keep the momentum going as we prepare for December’s elections,” he explained.
According to Roman Fada, the transition was necessary to uphold the party’s vision and position it for success despite the tragic loss of its leader.
Roman Fada’s nomination is rooted in his prior experience as Akua Donkor’s running mate, a role that prepared him well to step into the leadership position.
Reflecting on this journey, he said, “It is true and we all know what happened a week ago… when Akua Donkor passed. God rest her soul. As you know, I was the running mate for the 2024 election. She is no longer with us, so the party’s leadership deemed it right for me to replace her.”
