The Electoral Commission (EC) is conducting Special Voting today, Monday, December 2, in 14 regions of Ghana, excluding the Eastern and Western Regions.
This exercise enables security personnel, media practitioners, and election officials who will be on duty during the December 7 polls to cast their votes early.
An estimated 131,478 voters, representing 0.007 percent of the total registered electorate of 18,741,159, are expected to participate.
The Eastern and Western Regions were excluded due to a reported breach of security seals on ballot papers, prompting the EC to recall and reprint them.
Special voting for these regions has been rescheduled to Thursday, December 5, to ensure transparency and integrity.
EC Chairperson Jean Mensa assured the public of a smooth process in the 14 regions and reiterated the Commission’s commitment to addressing all concerns to maintain election credibility.
Votes cast during the exercise will be securely stored and tallied on December 7 at Constituency Collation Centres alongside the general election results.
The National Election Security Taskforce is overseeing operations to ensure a peaceful process, while political party agents and observers are monitoring the exercise.
The EC has urged all participants to adhere to guidelines and cooperate for a free, fair, and credible election.
