The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor has won the Awutu Senya East seat, defeating the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a tightly contested race, Naa Koryoo garnered 50,886 votes, surpassing Hawa Koomson’s 46,638 votes.
Her campaign, which prioritized addressing local concerns and promoting development, resonated deeply with voters in the constituency.
In her victory speech, Naa Koryoo expressed gratitude and pledged to deliver on her promises to her constituents.
“This has been a hard-fought win for me. Kasoa is now free and will see development under my watch,” she declared, highlighting her commitment to transformative leadership.
Her triumph was celebrated with jubilation by NDC supporters, who gathered at the Central East Regional Police Command to mark the occasion.
The win in Awutu Senya East is one of several gains by the NDC in the 2024 general elections, signaling a shift in parliamentary dynamics.
Official declaration is however on the Electoral Commission to declare in the coming days.
