The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) in its November 2024 Producer Price Index (PPI) report released on December 18, has revealed that the water supply, sewerage, and waste management sector recorded the lowest year-on-year inflation rate of 5.0%.
Within this sector, water collection, treatment, and supply stood out with an even lower inflation rate of 2.9%, while waste collection, treatment, and disposal activities reported 7.1%, a slight dip from October’s 7.2%.
“Water Supply, Sewerage, and Waste Management Sub-Sector Waste collection, treatment, and disposal activities; materials recovery recorded an inflation rate of 7.1 percent, indicating a decrease of 0.1 percentage points over the October 2024 rate of 7.2 percent. The water collection, treatment, and supply inflation recorded the lowest inflation (2.9%) rate in November 2024,” GSS explained in the report.
In contrast, the mining and quarrying sub-sector posted the highest inflation rate of 41.9%, reflecting the challenges in resource-based industries.
Manufacturing followed with 19.3% inflation, highlighting rising costs in production.
The monthly change rates showed mixed results, with the manufacturing sub-sector experiencing a 2.5% rise, while mining and quarrying saw a notable decrease of 6.4%.
