Parliament is set to reconvene today, January 2, 2025, following the conclusion of the holiday recess.
This marks the commencement of the first session of the year, which is expected to tackle several critical national issues.
It would be recalled that Parliament adjourned its seventh meeting of the fourth session of the Eighth Parliament to January 2, 2025, without approving the GH₵68.13 million Expenditure in Advance of Appropriation meant to cover public sector salaries for January to March 2025.
Key on the agenda is the consideration of legislative proposals that were deferred during the last sitting in December 2024.
Among these are the Free Secondary Education Bill, 2024, the Expenditure in Advance of Appropriation, a $250 million World Bank facility for the Ghana Financial Stability Project, and the President’s nomination of two justices for the Supreme Court.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, is expected to outline the priorities for this session in his opening remarks.
Parliamentary committees are also expected to resume work immediately to expedite the review of outstanding bills and reports.
