Dr. Samuel Afriyie, Political Scientist at KSTU, has voiced a call for change in the leadership of the 9th Parliament, suggesting Speaker The Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin should make way for new leadership.
Afriyie praised the Bagbin’s depth of experience, citing other capable individuals within the party who could handle the role more effectively in a non-hung parliament.
Speaking on ABC Morning Show, he emphasized that Bagbin’s role in the previous hung parliament was significant, but with an absolute majority, the NDC can afford fresh leadership.
“Bagbin was a tough leader, but this time, the dynamics will be different,” he said, implying a shift in approach for the new parliament.
He also praised other NDC members for their competency and political experience, hinting that they could bring new strategies to the table.
Inauguration of President-Elect
With barely 24 hours before President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s swearing-in, tensions continue to rise between the outgoing and incoming transition teams.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for Mahama’s transition team, raised concerns over ongoing recruitments, payments, and promotions by the current government.
In a media briefing, Ofosu outlined the incoming government’s stance: “Any last-minute recruitments and promotions made outside of transition protocols will be reversed,” he declared.
The transition team is scrutinizing a GH¢240 million payment linked to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), asserting that such actions were unauthorized. The outgoing government, however, maintains that all actions taken are within legal parameters.
Black Star Square Set for Mahama’s Return to Power
As Ghana prepares for the swearing-in of President-elect John Dramani Mahama, the Black Star Square in Accra is undergoing meticulous preparations for a historic inauguration ceremony.
Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for the transition team, provided details of the arrangements, including a three-zone division for the event.
“Access to the swearing-in area will be by invitation only,” Ofosu emphasized, outlining the security measures in place.
Public stands will be available, and the event will feature large LED screens for wider public viewing.
The inauguration promises to be a grand affair, attended by heads of state and dignitaries from across the globe.
