President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to meet the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Saturday, January 19, to discuss strategies for resolving escalating tensions in Bawku and Walewale.
During his visit to the Nayiri Palace, President Mahama highlighted the alarming impact of ongoing chieftaincy disputes between ethnic factions in the Upper East and Northern regions, which have resulted in significant casualties and destruction.
Acknowledging the Asantehene’s pivotal role in past conflict resolutions, the President expressed hope that the engagement would provide sustainable solutions to restore peace.
“Otumfuo has been playing a role, and I will discuss the situation with him. Whatever the outcome, I will share it with you,” Mahama assured the Mamprugu Overlord, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II.
