The second round of the Ghana Premier League kicked off with intense battles across various venues as teams sought to solidify their positions in the standings.

Accra Lions began their second-round campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over former champions Medeama SC at the Legon Sports Stadium on Friday. A second-half penalty converted by Nigerian forward Lucky Nwafor ensured the hosts collected all three points.

At the Baba Yara Stadium, Asante Kotoko continued their resurgence with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Karela United. Captain Justice Blay’s second-half penalty secured the victory, propelling the Porcupine Warriors to the top of the league table.

Fredrick Akatuk

Meanwhile, Fredrick Akatuk’s 51st-minute strike lifted Legon Cities out of the relegation zone after a crucial 1-0 win over Bibiani Gold Stars at the University of Ghana Stadium. The victory marked consecutive wins for the Royals, moving them to 15th place with 17 points.

Far away from home, Hearts of Oak’s title chase hit a roadblock as they were held to a goalless draw by Basake Holy Stars at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park. The Phobians remain fifth, four points adrift of the top spot, while Holy Stars maintain a six-point buffer above the relegation zone.

Heart of Lions secured a vital 2-1 victory over Aduana Stars at the Kpando Sports Stadium. Goals from Kwesi Pong and Seedorf Asante ensured a comeback win for the Lions, boosting their confidence in the league.

Emmanuel Sarpong

In Berekum, Emmanuel Sarpong’s 28th-minute goal secured a narrow 1-0 victory for Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park. The win marked consecutive triumphs for Chelsea, who now sit eighth in the standings.

Emmanuel Kyei’s decisive goal earned Young Apostles a 1-0 win over Nsoatreman at the Wenchi Sports Stadium. The result lifts the Apostles further away from relegation worries, showcasing improved form.

Defending champions Samartex were held to a 1-1 draw at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena. Alhassan Mankuyeli’s opener for Samartex was canceled out by a strike from Joseph Esso, denying the hosts a return to winning ways.

In a top-four clash, Bechem United secured a crucial 2-0 win over Nations FC at the Nana Gyeabour Park. Goals from Isaiah Nyarko and Emmanuel Abban ensured the Hunters remained strong contenders in the title race.
