Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo has formally requested copies of three petitions filed against her, which seek her removal from office.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Chief Justice urged that she be given access to the petitions before consultations between President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Council of State are concluded, in line with Article 146(6) of the Constitution.
The request was directed to key figures involved in the process, including:
- President of the Republic of Ghana
- Hon. Doe Adjaho, Chairman of the Council of State and Former Speaker of Parliament
- Justice Sophia Akuffo, Member of the Council of State and Former Chief Justice
“In the said letter, I humbly request for copies of the petitions to remove me from office as Chief Justice,” Justice Torkornoo stated.
The request comes amid heightened public interest in the matter, as the legal and political implications of the petitions continue to unfold. The Chief Justice has not publicly addressed the allegations contained in the petitions but has signaled her intent to respond appropriately once she gains access to the documents.
