The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has cautioned drivers and road users to exercise extreme caution as the country gears up for the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

Speaking on Prime News on Friday, Pearl Satekla Adusu, Public Relations Officer of the NRSA, emphasized the importance of road safety, particularly during festive periods when accidents tend to rise.

“All celebrants, including drivers, should be very careful during this festive period. Our safety and security should be taken care of by our own selves,” she advised.

She further warned against over-speeding and reckless driving, highlighting that the NRSA will intensify its road safety campaigns. “We will put out a report cautioning them as we celebrate,” she stated.

Eid Festivities and Road Safety Measures

The NRSA congratulated Muslims across Ghana for their dedication and perseverance throughout the 30-day fasting period of Ramadan. In a statement, the Authority commended the Muslim community for demonstrating discipline, spirituality, and compassion—values that align with the principles of road safety.

With the Eid festivities fast approaching, the NRSA noted that heightened movement and activity on roads could increase the risk of traffic accidents. As a preventive measure, the Authority is partnering with the government to educate the public on road safety rules during this ceremonial period.

According to Pearl Satekla Adusu, last year’s accident statistics showed a decline compared to previous years, and she expressed hope that this year would follow the same trend.

“Crashes last year were not as high as they used to be. We hope this year will be a positive one as well,” she said.

The NRSA urged all drivers and road users to take personal responsibility to ensure an incident-free Eid al-Fitr celebration.
