Accra Hearts of Oak have secured the long-term services of their in-form goalkeeper and captain, Benjamin Asare, after the club confirmed he has signed a new two-year contract extension that will keep him in Phobian colours until 2027.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper, who had been under contract until 2026, agreed to fresh terms following fruitful negotiations with the club’s hierarchy. The extension includes improved conditions and reflects Asare’s growing stature both within the club and on the national stage.

“The Board and Management of Accra Hearts of Oak are happy to announce that Black Stars goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare has extended his contract with Ghana’s biggest club,” read an official club statement.

The deal comes amid mounting interest from abroad, with North African heavyweights Raja Casablanca of Morocco and CR Belouizdad of Algeria reportedly eyeing the former Great Olympics player. Despite those advances, Asare has chosen to remain with Hearts of Oak, reaffirming his loyalty to the Accra-based club.

Asare’s stock has risen sharply following his impressive performances for the Black Stars, where he kept two clean sheets in his debut outings during Ghana’s recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. His assured displays have seen him leapfrog regulars Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott in the national team pecking order.

At club level, Asare has been a pillar of consistency this season in the Ghana Premier League, boasting an impressive 13 clean sheets in 20 matches, while conceding just eight goals. His leadership and shot-stopping abilities have been instrumental in Hearts’ push for a top-four finish.

The contract renewal is seen as a major boost for the Phobians, who are looking to return to continental competition. With Asare’s experience and form between the posts, the club is better positioned to end the season on a high and lay a strong foundation for the future.
