In commemoration of World Malaria Day 2025, Empowerment Through Education (ETE) visited Bishop Mixed Basic School in Accra to engage students in an educational and inspiring session on malaria awareness, prevention, and global development goals.
The event brought together pupils, educators, and healthcare professionals under the theme of community empowerment and health education. A nurse, Ms Ama Dei Frimpong from the Mamprobi Hospital led an insightful discussion with the students, breaking down the causes of malaria, how it spreads, symptoms to look out for, and most importantly, how to prevent it. She encouraged the pupils to sleep under treated mosquito nets, avoid stagnant water around their homes, and seek medical care promptly when symptoms arise.
In addition to the health talk, Andy Oppong Dankyi, Director of Empowerment Through Education, spoke passionately to the students about the power of reading and how education plays a critical role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). He challenged the pupils to see themselves as future change-makers who can help Ghana—and the world—achieve Agenda 2030.
The visit was part of ETE’s broader mission to empower young people through knowledge and equip them with the tools they need to make informed decisions about their health and future.
World Malaria Day is a reminder that while progress has been made, the fight against malaria continues. Through education, awareness, and collaboration, communities like Chorkor and its environs can be at the forefront of eliminating malaria for good.
