The High Court in Accra has sentenced Deborah Seyram Adablah, a former National Service personnel who infamously sued her ‘sugar daddy’ for breach of promise, to 45 days in prison for contempt of court.

Presiding Judge Justice John Bosco Nabarese handed down the sentence after Adablah was found guilty of defaming the court through two social media videos in which she launched scathing attacks on the judiciary and the judge himself.

In the videos, Adablah accused the judge of bias, warned him to “face her wrath,” and ridiculed the integrity of the judiciary, saying, “You cannot be sitting there, chopping salaries that are coming from my menstruation and still sideline me.”

The contempt charge stemmed from her actions during the initial court case in 2023, where she sued a senior bank official, her alleged “sugar daddy” for failing to honour promises including rent, a car, and financial support.

The court dismissed the case on grounds that the relationship was immoral and based on fornication for financial gain, with no legal cause of action.

Following the court’s decision to impound the Honda Civic at the heart of the dispute, Adablah confronted bailiffs, challenged their authority, and later attacked the judge online, prompting the court to issue a bench warrant for her arrest.

Even after learning of the warrant, Adablah doubled down with another video, calling the contempt case “dead on arrival” and casting aspersions on the judiciary’s credibility.

After her conviction on May 6, 2025, she streamed a live video from her phone placed on her lap, documenting a conversation with a security officer at the High Court complex as she was being processed for Nsawam Prison.
