The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has launched “Operation Red Line” to regulate street trading and enhance pedestrian movement in the Central Business District.
Led by Chief Executive Michael Kpapko Allotey, the initiative involves marking red lines on pavements to designate zones strictly for pedestrian use and controlled trading.
As part of a wider decongestion drive, AMA taskforces are also removing unauthorized structures and vendors obstructing public spaces.
The campaign, which continued on May 21 at Circle Neoplan Station, aims to restore order and reduce congestion across the city.
Meanwhile Michael Kpakpo Allotey has pledged to provide permanent trading spaces for street hawkers in the Central Business District within two months.
The move supports AMA’s ongoing “Operation Red Line” decongestion effort, which aims to improve traffic flow and sanitation through clearly marked pedestrian and trading zones.
During a site inspection, the Mayor affirmed his commitment to sustaining the initiative until all objectives are achieved.
