Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II received the nation’s first-ever traceable and responsibly sourced gold bars during a gala dinner at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel on Sunday, 2 June 2025.
The event, part of the Mining in Motion Summit, marked the official presentation by Typhoon Greenfield Development Ltd, MKS PAMP, and Development Gold International (DGI), and signaled Ghana’s entry into the global responsible gold supply chain.
The six gold bars, sourced from the Adomanu mine in the Ashanti Region and refined in Switzerland, were donated for auction in support of Otumfuo’s environmental and water-focused charitable foundations.
The milestone attracted key figures from across Africa’s mining and governance sectors, including ministers from Ghana, Malawi, Niger, and others.
The gold was tracked via the MineTrace platform, ensuring full transparency and compliance with international standards such as the LBMA Responsible Sourcing Programme.
Industry leaders hailed the development as a breakthrough for Ghana’s small-scale miners, who are now being recognised on the global stage. With strong backing from sustainability experts and government institutions, the initiative sets a new precedent for ethical mining across the continent.
