The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced that, beginning August 1, 2025, it will cease the issuance of aluminium ‘Drive from Port’ (DP) number plates at Ghana’s ports.
In their place, the Authority will implement a fully digital system that issues only DP stickers at all designated entry points, including the Tema and Takoradi ports.
This follows a successful pilot of the digital sticker system, which the DVLA says will improve service delivery for vehicle importers.
According to the DVLA, the new initiative will boost the security, efficiency, and convenience of port vehicle processing, in line with its broader digital transformation agenda.
As part of the rollout, the DVLA is collaborating with the State Insurance Company (SIC) to ensure that every vehicle issued a DP sticker receives mandatory insurance before leaving port premises.
The Authority has urged the public to support the reform, describing it as a major step toward streamlining DVLA operations across the country.
