Deputy Director of the NPP, Kokuro Asiedu, has said the Akwatia by-election will be a critical test for the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to prove his competence in handling electoral violence.
He expressed confidence in the state security agencies ahead of a scheduled meeting with the IGP but maintained that their authority must be exercised decisively to prevent any disturbances.
“We are confident in the state security, we believe it is a new case for the new IGP to demonstrate his competencies and capacities in dealing with issues like this,” Asiedu stated.
He further attributed the violence that marred the recent Ablekuma North contest to political alignments, stressing that lessons must be learned to ensure that the Akwatia poll is conducted peacefully.
