Security preparations for the Akwatia parliamentary by-election will see a total of 5,000 police officers deployed across the constituency, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed through deliberations with stakeholders.
NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections, Mahdi Jibril, who spoke after the security engagement, praised the Police for their readiness to ensure peace.
“They are giving us 5,000 police officers in Akwatia,” Jibril told ABC News GH, highlighting the scale of deployment aimed at securing both voters and electoral officials.
He explained that the presence of such a large security force would help create an atmosphere of calm and deter potential misconduct on election day.
Jibril reiterated that the NDC would uphold peace throughout the process.
“We will maintain the peace in Akwatia. We will conduct ourselves peacefully in Akwatia,” he assured, stressing his party’s commitment to a violence-free contest.
