The Komfo Anokye Doctors Association (KADA) has suspended its indefinite strike action and directed members to resume work immediately following interventions by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and other key stakeholders.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Association on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, after what it described as fruitful engagements aimed at addressing concerns surrounding the suspension of the Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo.

According to KADA, the suspension of the industrial action was influenced by the timely intervention of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the hospital’s Board and Management, as well as other stakeholders who have demonstrated commitment to finding a lasting solution to the issues raised by the doctors.

Despite suspending the strike, the Association stressed that the concerns which triggered the action have not yet been fully resolved.

“While KADA remains committed to ensuring that the issues that occasioned the strike are fully resolved, we have carefully considered the potential impact of the prolonged action on patient care and public health,” the statement said.

The Association noted that the welfare of patients and the broader public interest were central to its decision to return to the negotiating table, adding that patient safety and public health remain at the heart of its professional responsibilities.

KADA expressed optimism that ongoing dialogue among all parties would result in an amicable resolution of the outstanding issues.

The Association also extended appreciation to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Board and Management of KATH, and other stakeholders whose efforts facilitated discussions leading to the suspension of the strike.

It further acknowledged the support received from the National Executive Council and members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), describing their role as instrumental throughout the impasse.

KADA additionally thanked several professional health bodies for standing in solidarity with the Association during the industrial action. These included the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), the Emergency Medicine Society of Ghana (EmSOG), the Orthopaedic Association of Ghana (OAG), the Health Services Workers’ Union (HSWU), the Komfo Anokye Certified Registered Anaesthetist Association (KACRA), the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS-KATH Chapter), and the Komfo Anokye Pharmacists Association (KAPA).

The strike was declared following the suspension of Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo by the hospital’s Board after a directive from the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

In a notice dated June 5, 2026, KADA announced a total withdrawal of services effective June 6, describing the decision to suspend the CEO as “unjustified and counterproductive” under the prevailing circumstances.

The doctors argued that Dr. Baidoo was being sanctioned for implementing critical administrative measures aimed at addressing severe congestion at the hospital’s Emergency Department.

The suspension of the strike is expected to restore full medical services at the facility while discussions continue over the issues that sparked the industrial action.
