The Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Ya-Na Abukari II, describing his death as a great loss to Dagbon and the nation as a whole.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the lawmaker extended her heartfelt condolences to the Gbewaa Palace, the Dagbon Kingmakers, the Regent, the royal family, and the entire people of the Dagbon Kingdom.

The announcement of the Ya-Na’s passing was made by the Head of the Dagbon Kingmakers following the performance of traditional customary rites at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.

Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah paid tribute to the late monarch as more than a traditional ruler, describing him as a father figure, a symbol of peace, and a unifying leader whose wisdom and statesmanship guided the Dagbon Kingdom through significant moments in its history.

She noted that the loss is particularly significant for the people of Salaga South, where at least seven Dagbon communities coexist peacefully with the Gonja and other ethnic groups in the East Gonja area.

“Our constituency is home to several Dagbon communities that have lived in harmony with the Gonja and other tribes for generations. In this difficult moment, we stand in solidarity with our Dagomba brothers and sisters and share fully in their grief,” she stated.

The MP commended the late Ya-Na’s enduring commitment to peace, reconciliation, and unity, saying his leadership transcended ethnic and regional boundaries and earned him the respect and admiration of Ghanaians from all walks of life.

On behalf of the people of Salaga South, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and the entire Dagbon Kingdom, expressing hope that the late King’s legacy of peace, unity, and wise leadership would continue to inspire future generations.

She concluded her tribute with a traditional prayer, saying, “Naa yiko be nyɔ hi. May the soul of His Royal Majesty Ya-Na Abukari II rest in perfect peace.”
