Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has recalled Members of Parliament from recess for a five-day sitting to transact what has been described as urgent parliamentary business.
The recall takes effect from Monday, August 24, with MPs expected to remain in the House until Friday, August 28, 2026.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, August 12, the Speaker directed lawmakers to report to Parliament House in Accra at noon on August 24.
The decision was taken under Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which provides for the recall of the House when circumstances require an early resumption.
The development comes barely three weeks after Parliament adjourned on July 31, with the House originally expected to remain on recess until October.
However, the Speaker has now brought forward the resumption date to allow Parliament to deal with matters considered urgent.
The notice, however, did not specify the urgent parliamentary business that necessitated the recall.
