The Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, has commissioned eight boreholes across the constituency as part of efforts to improve access to clean and safe drinking water.
The commissioning ceremony took place on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in collaboration with the East Gonja Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the NDC Constituency Chairman.
The eight boreholes comprise seven mechanised boreholes and one manual borehole. The beneficiary communities and areas include Nguansonu, Powerhouse, RTF Area, Mempeasem, the Salaga New Market Area, Masaka, and the Salaga Old Police Station.
According to the MP, the eight boreholes form part of twelve completed borehole projects across the constituency, bringing potable water closer to households and reducing the difficulties residents, particularly women, face in accessing clean water.
Hajia Zuwera explained that the projects were inspired by concerns raised by residents during her engagements with communities ahead of the 2024 general elections.
She said many women spoke about the challenges they encountered in accessing clean water for their families, prompting her to commit to finding ways to address the situation.
The MP expressed satisfaction with the completion of the projects, saying the development demonstrates how listening to communities and working with relevant stakeholders can turn promises into tangible results.
She expressed gratitude to Chief Dr. Doli-Wura Awushi Abdul-Malik Seidu Zakaria, Managing Director of the National Investment Bank, as well as the bank’s Board and Management, for supporting the funding of two of the boreholes.
Hajia Zuwera also thanked the beneficiary communities, particularly the women’s groups, for their patience, cooperation and support throughout the implementation of the projects.
She reaffirmed her commitment to engaging directly with residents, identifying their most pressing needs and collaborating with stakeholders to bring additional development projects to the Salaga South Constituency.
The MP stressed that access to clean and safe drinking water is a basic necessity and a right that every community deserves.
