Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has returned to the Ghana national team setup after being appointed Clubs and Player Relations Manager.
The new role will see the former striker work closely with the Black Stars’ technical and administrative teams to strengthen coordination between the national team, players and their respective clubs.
Gyan will be involved in matters relating to player welfare, communication and engagement, serving as a link between the technical team and the players during the national team cycle.
The appointment marks Gyan’s first major role within the Black Stars setup since his retirement from international football and gives him an opportunity to contribute his experience away from the pitch.
Gyan remains Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 international goals and was one of the country’s most prominent players during his international career.
He captained the Black Stars at several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and represented Ghana at three FIFA World Cups, including the 2010 tournament in South Africa, where Ghana narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals.
In his new capacity, Gyan is expected to help facilitate communication on matters such as international call-ups, player availability and welfare, while also offering guidance and mentorship to members of the playing squad.
His extensive experience as a former captain and senior member of the national team is expected to provide an additional layer of support for the current generation of Black Stars players.
Gyan’s return comes as Ghana prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign and other international assignments.
He will work alongside the technical and administrative teams to improve engagement between the Black Stars and the clubs that provide players for the national team.
The appointment adds a new dimension to Gyan’s long association with the Black Stars, with the former captain now set to contribute to the team from a management and player-support role.
