Members of the National Association of Institutional Suppliers have reiterated their intention to proceed with a planned picket in response to the government’s failure to settle all outstanding arrears owed to them.
This association, which plays a crucial role in supplying school uniforms, house dresses, and other essential clothing items to senior high schools throughout Ghana, is currently facing a significant financial setback due to the government’s non-payment of arrears spanning two years.
Following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the government on January 18, 2024, the association had expected prompt action to settle the outstanding debts. However, despite this deadline passing, the government has yet to fulfill its financial obligations to the association.
Emmanuel Ayivor, the public relations officer for the National Association of Institutional Suppliers, emphasized in an interview that the association remains resolute in its decision to proceed with the planned picket. He further stated that the association will communicate the specific date for the picketing in due course, underscoring their determination to address the issue and seek resolution for their members.
“If we don’t hear anything from the government after the 14-day ultimatum, we will picket, and we are proposing to picket on February 26, which is the last Monday of the month. We will sit there until they pay us. We will converge at the Makola market and let the mothers know that the government is refusing to pay us for the uniforms that their children are wearing. What the government is doing is collapsing our business.” He stated.
