A delegation from the Ghana Russia Center for Commerce and Relations, led by its CEO, John Aggrey, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif, on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The visit was to formally present the team and share the good news of Ghana receiving membership at the Hand-to-Hand Sports International Federation, which the Ghanaian organization facilitated.
Hon. Mustapha Ussif warmly received the delegation and commended the enthusiasm and patriotic gesture of the young and vibrant team who put Ghana first and did not rely on waiting for the Government’s support before taking initiative. He further stressed that the Youth and Sports Ministry as many perceive it is actually open to all who have tangible projects, initiatives and are ready to invest to develop the sector.
In his report to the Sector Minister, John Aggrey also shared promising news of fully funded scholarships worth $1 million for Ghanaian youths in areas of Sports Development and related programs. This he believed was needed if we have to build the capacity of young people in areas of sports.
In his submission, he also presented briefly on the recently held World Youth Festival, Sochi 2024. Ghana was represented at this event by over 30 delegates. The Festival brought over 20,000 young Russian and foreign leaders in such fields as business, media, international cooperation, culture, science, education, volunteering and charity, sports and various areas of public life. Reports reaching us indicate Ghana took some spotlights at the event especially during its Independence Day celebrations on March 6.
The Youth and Sports Minister, in his closing remarks, thanked the delegation from the Ghana Russia Center for Commerce and Relations for its dedication to supporting youth activities and welcomed them to share and collaborate with respective Agencies and Focal Points to increase Ghana’s participation at such a global level.
In attendance were the Heads of International Projects and Operations, Michael Acquah and Kow Taylor, respectively, Mr. William Kartey, Chief Director at the Ministry; and other Departmental Heads. On the sidelines of the meeting earlier, Head of the delegation’s Business Development and Innovations, Ziona Ayorkor Biney also had meetings on Women in Health and Sports, where critical attention is needed to bolster Women’s participation and profitable development in the sector.
